Well I have been neglecting my goal to write on our blog every month but I am going to try to be better. Our biggest news in the past month is that we were in a car accident about 3 weeks ago and our car was totaled.  We were coming home from Lucas' professor's home on a Sunday night after a dinner and get-together. We were two lights away from being home when a guy turning left failed to yield at the intersection and hit the front/corner of our car. Thankfully everyone was fine and there were no injuries... however we were all very emotional about the experience. Once we found out our car was totaled we then purchased a new car that same day. It is a 2005 Nissan Altima with about 100,000 miles on it. We are loving the car and it gets much better gas mileage then our previous car.

Oliver is doing really well.  He is seven months old now and really enjoys making noises!  He 'talks' a lot and loves making other noises.  He has a new found love of water.  He has a sippy cup and a little water bottle, both of which he loves to drink from.  Sometimes he drinks so much we have to take the drink away from him for fear of him overdosing. He is doing really well sitting up now.  He is getting up on his hands well, but hasn't started to crawl yet.  Oliver also really enjoys eating food now!  He eats broccoli, sweet potatoes, pears etc.

St. Louis Our New Home

So we are finally here is the great city of St. Louis, MO and we are loving this city. There are so many fun activities to do here and almost everything is free! We have been to the zoo twice, the arch a couple of times, walked downtown, and scoped out the great parks here.

Our new place is a duplex townhouse with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is huge!! We have several great LDS neighbors that live really close. Our ward is wonderful as well and the majority of the members are students and young couples just like us. We have been having over a different couple each Sunday night to play games and have dessert.

So Lucas has started law school and he is working a ton but is really enjoying his classes and has already felt like he has learned a ton. He is taking the following classes: contracts, criminal law, civil procedure, and a research and writing class.

I am currently studying for the CPA exam and hope to have all of my exams taken and passed by the beginning of next year. I have also made lots of new friends and we get together for play group and go to different thrifts around the city. Also we have a new calling in the ward--- we are nursery workers and we are having a lot of fun with that---there are 15 kids!!

Well our little baby boy is turning 6 months old this week and I can't believe it. He is sitting up on his own and loves eating and drinking big kids food. There are times when I am trying to eat around him that I have to stop because he wont stop staring at me and I just feel bad! Also he is in love with watching the TV which I try not to let him do very often. However if he is just really fussy and I can't make him happy I will turn on a Baby Einstein movie for him to watch:) We also started sleep training Oliver because I just couldn't take waking up with him 4-6 times every night. He wasn't sleeping well and neither was I so it just wasn't working! It was hard to let him cry but within a couple of days he was sleeping great and only waking up once a night. Also we went cold turkey with his pacifier and I am happy to report he has been pacifier free for the past three weeks.  

Also this summer we spent time with Lucas' family at their house and we also attended the Illinois State  fair for a week.... that is right a whole week! We saw the different exhibits, some of the judged shows, some musical numbers, and ate tons of fair food. Also I milked a cow for my very first time! We all had a great time and we enjoyed spending time with the family.

Deppermann Update

I just wanted to give everyone a little update on our lives right now. We have two new members of our family, Bert and Ernie, our two little guppy fishes. We had a crazy itching to be spontaneous so we bought some fish:) Also Lucas is finishing up his last term at BYU and very excited to be done and to have a break before starting law school...even though the break will be short. Also I have started sewing more and I have made a tank top and a shirt and have plans to sew a lot more! I have really enjoyed it but my sewing machine isn't the best so it makes it really hard to make anything. But I am still loving being a stay-at-home mom and a homemaker. We are eating real meals for the first time in our marriage! We are also busy planning our move to St. Louis which is fast approaching! Lucas and I have also started a running competition to see who can run the most miles this summer. We were doing really well the first two weeks but last week neither of us ran at all!!.... To be fair I was sick for the first part of the week. Well that is all for us right now...more to come later!

2 Months Old!

Oliver had his 2 month birthday on Saturday and I can't believe he is already 2 months old! The time has flown by since we were taking him home from the hospital. Well at his checkup we found out that he is 12 lbs 3 oz and he is now 24 inches tall.  He is a big growing boy and so cute...we love him. He has slept 6 hours at a time twice now and so I hope that just continues to increase on nighttime sleeping. He is also smiling now and having less poopy diapers which is so great:) He is still spitting up like a champion but we have decided to take him off the medicine he has been on because we haven't seen a real improvement while being on the medicine. We are working hard to get him to hold up his head by himself and look forward to when he can LOL!

Mother's Day

Well I felt like the most important mother in the world this Mother's Day and it was only my first one! Lucas and Oliver made the day so wonderful for me. The day started with Lucas helping me with Oliver at night. Then Lucas made me breakfast in bed and then sent me out on a scavenger hunt to find my Mother's Day gift. The clues for the gift were hidden all over the house and the clues started with our dates and then went to our engagement and then marriage. It was such a cute idea and I had so much fun! The clues led me to Oliver's room where I had to search for my gift. My gift was a pearl necklace with diamonds on the top and then diamond earrings! I was so spoiled and Lucas just kept telling me he wanted to make my first Mother's Day very special...and that it was! We then got ready for church and had a great time and Oliver was really good too which was a bonus. Then we made hamburgers for dinner and then I got to choose our activity for the night which was Disney Scene It. I am so grateful for my wonderful husband and adorable baby boy who mean the world to me. I look forward to the many more Mother's Day in the future.

We finally made it....Graduation!!

Well with the birth of our little boy and finishing up school, life was pretty crazy. Thankfully we had family come down to visit and help watch Oliver so that I could still go to my classes. Well we finished up those last few weeks and then finals and I was just grateful to pass...the thought of A's weren't even on my mind.... C's get degrees!! However I am happy to report I have never had a C in all of my education. Well we had both of our parents at our graduation and that was so wonderful. Lucas and I have both worked so hard to excel in our college education and those degrees are proof of that. However Lucas still has law school to tackle but I know he will do great. Also we have finally decided on a law school...drum roll please... we are going to Washington University in St. Louis, MO. We are leaving at the end of July and we are so excited!!

Well for the graduation I walked in Lucas' college so that we could spare our family only one convocation... they are extremely long and boring! We had a great time and then enjoyed going out to eat with the different families.

From 2 to 3...

We were so blessed on Monday the 26th of March to have our beautiful baby boy Oliver join our family. We love him so much and are so glad he arrived safe and healthy.

I went into the doctor on Friday afternoon for my normal weekly check-up with my due date still almost a week away. I was still only dilated to one centimeter and my doctor didn't expect me to go into labor anytime soon. She told me that she would not induce me early but that after a week of being overdue I could be induced. She also told me that she thought that the baby was going to be too big for me and that I would have to have a c-section. Well I was very emotional when I heard that news because I absolutely didn't want a c-section and I had a really bad itchy rash from the pregnancy that was driving me crazy so I wanted this baby out! Thankfully I started having contractions on Saturday afternoon and they start just about 10 minutes apart. I was so excited and nervous to think that this could really be it and that the baby could be coming soon. I tried not to get my hopes up in case I still had another week but Lucas started timing the contractions and having me rate the pain on a scale from 1 to 10. Well we couldn't sleep that night with the contractions becoming more intense and closer together. We finally decided it was time to go to the hospital so we left home at about 2 am on Sunday morning.

We arrived at the hospital where they hooked me up to the monitors and said that they would watch me for an hour to see if I dilated any further. If I did then I could stay but if not I would have to go home and wait my labor out there. Well my contractions were about 2-3 minutes apart and very intense but I still wasn't dilating. They gave me some pain medication and sent me home but told me I would probably be back in just a few hours. Well they were right... We got home and we tried to sleep some but by 11 am I was in so much pain I was in tears. However I didn't want to go back to the hospital because I was afraid of being sent home again. Finally when I couldn't take the pain anymore we went back to the hospital. When we arrived and they checked how dilated I was thankfully I was at a 4 and within 15 minutes I had my ivy and epidural all hooked up and ready to go. Those two things were what I was most worried about so once those were done and over I was very relieved. I then slept most of the day pain free and just waiting until I was fully dilated and ready to push. I was finally fully dilated and effaced at about 9 pm. I then became to push for the next 2 hours making progress but no baby yet. My doctor then told me that they thought the baby's shoulders would be too big and we suggesting they do a c-section. By that time I was exhausted and ready to be done with the labor so we decided a c-section was necessary.

In no time at all they had me prepped for the surgery and were moving me into the operation room. The scariest part of the experience for me was that I began shaking uncontrollable because of some medication they gave me which scared me even further for the operation.  However the operation only took 15 minutes and then I was able to see my baby boy... 8 lbs 1 oz and 21 inches long. However my time with him was very brief and I wasn't able to hold him. It was another hour or so before I was able to first hold my baby...and that was a time worth waiting for! We then spent the next three days at the hospital with Lucas hardly ever leaving my side....I was so grateful for that because it took me a good 3 minutes to even get out of bed! We were so excited when we were finally able to leave the hospital with our new baby. We both left healthy and happier than ever!

Another Winter Day...

Not too much is new with the Deppermann's however I thought it was a good idea to keep the blog updated as best I can. Lucas and I are planning on moving out of our current place to my grandparent's house on the 25th of February. They will be leaving on a mission in April so we will be staying in their house rent free until at least August. It has been weird packing up the house and getting everything ready but it will be a new adventure and I am excited to setup the baby's room once we are moved in.

Also we are almost 100% sure that we will be remaining in our original ward even with the move which will be really nice to know people with the new baby. Also I have a new calling which is a Relief Society Visiting Teaching Supervisor which I am pumped for. Lucas is still the Elder's President and had to speak in the Adult session of stake conference which he did wonderful at. We still have people who come up to us to tell us what a great talk he gave.

The latest new development with the baby is that due to me failing my first gestational diabetes test and then passing the second one I have to have a sugar-free, no treats diet until the baby comes. It hasn't been too bad but there are definitely times when I am just craving ice cream and I can't have it. However the baby will be here soon so I am not going to complain. Anything for that boy! He will coming hopefully in 6 more weeks!

31 Weeks

School is going well and we are still trying to decide which law school we will be attending in the Fall. We are both super excited for graduation that just can't come soon enough!

One Year Anniversary

Lucas and I celebrated our first anniversary this past Saturday and Lucas made it a day to remember! We started the day by attending our ward's Christmas breakfast party where we had catered waffles and bacon. We then left the party and packed up for our day in Salt Lake City. We left for Salt Lake City stopping at Cabela on our way up. We then checked into our hotel at the Red Lion and they gave us some complimentary chocolate cake for our anniversary:) It was delicious. We then got all dressed up for our evening out.

We first went to Benihana's which is a Japanese grill that had you sitting at the grill. It was a show and dinner all in one and so much fun. I ordered teriyaki chicken and it came with fried rice, onion soup, mixed veggies, shrimp, and a salad. It was so much food and all of it... but the shrimp...was amazing! It was definitely the nicest and most expensive place I have ever eaten at!

After the wonderful dinner we went over to see the Utah Symphony performing with the Cirque De La. They played Christmas music and the performers juggled, danced, and did some amazing acrobatics. We loved the performance and are already talking about the next time we can go to see them. We then stayed the night up in SLC just relaxing and sleeping in which was also wonderful:) We then left in the morning to return home and to begin packing for our Christmas trip up to Washington.

Baby Oliver

We found out in July that we were going to be having a baby in March. Lucas and I were overjoyed and told both of our families as soon as we found out. We told my parents by giving my dad a birthday card that said "Happy Birthday Grandpa" because this will be the first grandchild on my side. My parents were both shocked and excited as well.

During my first trimester I experienced some morning sickness that was not fun but manageable that lasted until I was about 17 weeks. After that it has been fairly smooth-sailing with just the occasional heartburn and sleepless nights.

We found out at week 17 that we were having a .... boy!! We were so excited to hear that the Lord has blessed us with a little baby boy. Both Lucas and I thought we were having a girl but after the ultrasound we were sure it was a boy:) I have to admit, when I found out we were having a boy I was a little worried. I grew up with little sisters so I feel very unprepared for raising a little boy but I have been searching for different activities and games you can play with a boy so I am very excited now!

Well I am about a week away from starting my third trimester so we are on the final stretch of the pregnancy. I just marvel at the wonder that is inside of me right now. It is amazing to feel him moving around and kicking in my stomach and realizing I have a little baby inside of me right now! It is wonderful and such a blessing in our lives.

A little update...

I have been terrible about updating my blog so with some extra time from winter break I am going to do some updating! We have just finished our second to last semester and I couldn't be happier! I have just one more semester to go until I graduate with my masters and am done with school forever. That being about bitter sweet emotions but mostly sweet for right now.

We found out several months ago that we are expecting our first baby in the spring and we are so excited for his arrival! Lucas is still the elder's quorum president and I will be released shortly from teaching the sunbeams. Lucas has all of his law school applications in and is just playing the waiting game to find out where he will be accepted. He has already been accepted at USC which is ranked 18th and George Washington which is 19th so we are so happy about that!

Lucas had his 24th birthday just last week and I made him a turkey dinner. Also we got a real Christmas tree for our house even though we weren't going to be home for Christmas this year.

Time with the Family

My family has just left after being down in Utah for about 3 weeks. When the family was down here we went bowling, to yard sales, camping at Yellowstone, and a family reunion.

When the family arrived it was Erica's 18th birthday and we threw her a birthday party at our house. She had over some of her cousins and friends from EFY and they played the Wii, badminton, and did some fireworks.

I also had a chance to go with my mom to yard sales on a Friday morning and had great fun and success. I found a popcorn popper, fruit basket, cheese grater, cutter board, and alot of other great items.

We also had my younger sisters over for a sleepover. We made homemade pizzas, went on a hike up the rock canyon trail, and watched Gnomeo and Juliet which my sisters loved!

The following week we went up to Montana and Idaho to go to Yellowstone and a family reunion. We saw several bison, a moose, and a lot of other animals on our journey through yellowstone. We had a bison that stopped in the middle of the road and a park ranger had to come to get the cars and bison moving. So we have a new tent and sleeping bag that we got from Lucas' parents for our wedding gift and we were so excited to use them for the first time! We had also purchased a air mattress from DI that we were planning on blowing up and using. We were blowing the mattress up with a hand pump at about 11 PM our first night in camp. After all of the work and exhaustion we were finally ready to sleep and the last thing I said to Lucas was " I really hope I don't end up on the floor in the morning." Well needless to say around three in the morning I could feel the ground and we definitely not a happy camper. But despite this minor set-back, our camping experience was still a positive one. We also had a great time hanging out with the whole family and the best part was the finally event which was a relay race against all of the different families.
